Koh Tachai is the northernmost point of the Similan Islands National Park.

This island is one of Thailand´s most precious jewels, given its beautiful landscape and diverse flora and fauna. This amazing place has become victim of mass tourism, attracting visitors from all over the world, and thus, increasing impact on its natural life and environment. Consequently, since May 2016, the Thai government has closed the island for an indefinite period of time, stopping the inflow of tourists, in an attempt to recover its magnificent wildlife. This "extreme" measure is being applied in more places in Thailand, like Maya Bay in Koh Phi Phi (the beach popularized by Leonardo Di Caprio in his movie `The Beach´) and, even in other spots around the world, like Boracay in the Philippines.
These types of environmental measures to help protect the environment and its wildlife should be a wake-up call to everyone and should make us take a deep thought on how we interact with our planet and the impact we cause with our actions.
The good news is that diving is still allowed around the island! ...And the diving will surely amaze you as it is a marvelous place!

The most popular dive spot is called "The Dome". It is a pinnacle far away from the island, famous for its strong currents. The site´s morphology, composed of huge granite boulders and spaces between them, enables you to take refuge from the strong currents and still enjoy the immersion!

Once again, as mentioned in prior posts, strong currents will attract large pelagic animals such as mantas, whale sharks and large schools of barracudas, among many others.

The site´s depth ranges from 12 to 30 meters and each corner is full of life!

Many divers agree that the best times to dive are at sunrise and sunset. Lighting at that time makes the experience even more magical.
I will never get bored of diving in Koh Tachai. Without a doubt, one of my favorite diving spots!
See you in the blue
