15 minutes drive from one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean Sea (Benidorm), you will arrive in Altea. It is a very quiet town, ideal to relax. The views from its old town and the charm of its streets are not wasted. But for me, what ends up making it such a special place is its diving.

The main destination of the area is the "Isla Mediana" located in the "Natural Park of Sierra Helada", 20 minutes from the port.

The maximum depth is 28 m, its bottom is rocky and we can find numerous species such as octopuses, chromis, moray eels, conger eels, lobsters, gorgonians, sponges, and in moments of good visibility, the landscape is exceptional.

If your dive coincides with the seasonal cleaning station (mostly during May), it is likely that you will encounter the sunfish (Mola mola).

But the options do not end here. It is worth visiting the Elephant and the Dwarf caves.

They are very spacious and short, leaving incredible views like this window of blue. If you are an Open Water Diver with at least 15 dives, you are allowed access them.

And finally we have “la pileta”, a dive site suitable for all levels full of corridors, windows and swimthroughs created by large rocks, full of yellow cluster anemone.

You can combine the caves with “la pileta” in a single dive, so if you decide to two dives, you can dive in the same day on the Mediana Island as well. The Benidorm Island is a very popular option, but we will talk about it later.
See you in the blue
